What is the ARE 5.0 Exam?
The ARE NCARB 5.0 exam is not a single exam, it is six (6) exams that are required in order to become a licensed Architect in the United States. The ARE represents the Architectural Registration Examination. The exams are focused on the progression of an architectural project from start to finish. The Six Exams:
- Practice Management
- Project Management
- Programming and Analysis
- Project Planning and Design
- Project Development and Documentation
- Construction and Evaluation
There are requirements for each jurisdiction based on your location, scheduling factors and policies. All of which can be found at https://www.ncarb.org/pass-are/are5/start.
The exam focuses on the public’s health, safety, and welfare to ensure architects protect these concepts when providing professional services. In each exam, there are several sections in which the test taker will be assessed on. The test taker is required to pass ALL of the sections of each exam. By passing each section of the exam will then lead to an overall pass of the exam. The challenge with this type of test is that the information being questioned is not you’re like you’re average test. It is simply not “How thick is a concrete wall?”. The questions are case scenario type, where you are to apply your knowledge and skills to answer it.
